Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony Held in Meherpur

Freelancers across Bangladesh are contributing significantly to the national economy by earning large amounts of foreign currency. However, despite their economic impact, they still lack proper social and governmental recognition within the country.
While every traditional profession enjoys formal certification and social respect, freelancing — a modern and globally respected profession — remains largely misunderstood in many local communities. In the digital world, Bangladeshi freelancers have earned an excellent reputation for their skills, dedication, and professionalism. Yet, in many areas, people remain unaware of what freelancers actually do on their computers, how they earn, or how much they contribute through foreign remittances.
As a result, many freelancers are often misjudged as being unemployed or idle, even though they are making a strong contribution to the digital economy. This lack of awareness has led to social challenges for freelancers, who frequently have to explain and justify their work.
Freelancers have urged the Government of Bangladesh to grant official recognition to the freelancing profession and to take initiatives that promote freelancing and digital employment opportunities in rural areas.
The Logo Opening Event in Meherpur
These concerns were raised during the Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony, held on the afternoon of May 7, 2014, at the Meherpur District Commissioner’s Conference Room.
At the event, prominent freelancer and entrepreneur Munshi Jahangir Zinnat emphasized the importance of recognizing freelancers as legitimate professionals who are helping to build a new digital Bangladesh. He said that providing social and governmental recognition would encourage rural youth to pursue freelancing and contribute to reducing unemployment.
In his remarks, District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain assured that he would discuss this issue with senior officials of the Ministry of ICT to explore ways to strengthen the freelancing sector nationwide.
Guests and Participants
The Freelancer to Entrepreneur logo was officially unveiled by Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain and MeherpurNews24.com’s Chief Editor, Rafiqul Alam. ICT Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan also joined the program live via video conference.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, journalists, and freelancers from different upazilas of Meherpur District.
The event marked an important milestone in the ongoing national initiative to transform freelancers into recognized entrepreneurs — highlighting their contributions to the digital economy and their potential to shape the future of Bangladesh’s workforce.
