Meherpur Freelancers’ Cricket Match and Meet-up

Unique Soft has always been enthusiastic about organizing various events to encourage and unite the freelancers of Meherpur. Over the years, it has arranged several engaging programs — including a picnic in April and a Ramadan meet-up — aimed at fostering friendship and motivation among freelancers.

Continuing this tradition, the Founder & CEO of Unique Soft, Mr. Munshi Jahangir Zinnat (Hirok), announced on his Facebook page on 10 July 2014 that the next event would feature a special attraction — a cricket match!
Although the date was not mentioned initially, he shared the idea of forming several teams for the friendly competition.

Later, on 30 July 2014, Mr. Hirok officially declared that the match would take place on 1 August 2014 at 8:00 AM, at the Chandbill Government Primary School field.
MeherpurNews24.com was invited to join the match, and its representative Majidul Haque Manik gladly accepted the invitation to play alongside the freelancers.

Teams and Match Format

When the much-awaited day arrived, all the participants gathered enthusiastically at the field. Although the scheduled time was 8:00 AM, the game began around 9:00 AM as players gradually arrived.

Originally, eight teams were planned, but due to time constraints, four teams were finally formed:

• MeherpurNews24.com — Captain: Majidul Haque Manik

• Web Developer Team — Captain: Taifur Rahman

• Marketing Team — Captain: Sumon Reza

• Special Team — Captain: Munshi Jahangir Zinnat (Hirok)

It was decided that the tournament would follow a knockout format, with 10-over matches.

• Match 1: MeherpurNews24.com vs Web Developer Team

• Match 2: Marketing Team vs Special Team

• The winners would compete in the final match.

Match Highlights

First Match:
MeherpurNews24.com won the toss and chose to bat first. However, they lost their top-order batsmen early and managed to score only 50 runs.
When the Web Developer Team came to bat, they too faced an early collapse, losing 4 wickets in the first two overs. Then Tareq stabilized the innings and moved the team close to victory. Finally, Rubel sealed the win with a six, and the Web Developer Team won by 5 wickets.

Second Match:
The Special Team won the toss and chose to bat, but struggled initially as well. Thanks to Sumon, Rimon, and Jakaria, they managed to post 51 runs.
The Marketing Team began their chase but faced a fierce bowling attack — Jakaria took four wickets in his first two overs. Despite this, the Marketing Team fought back strongly and reached the target, winning by 1 wicket.

The Final Match:
The final showdown was between Marketing Team and Web Developer Team. The Web Developer Team won the toss and decided to field first.
The Marketing Team faced tough bowling and were all out for just 30 runs. When the Web Developer Team began their chase, they also struggled, scoring 15 runs for 8 wickets. They needed 13 runs off the last over.

At that crucial moment, Iman Hossain came in as the last batsman and played a heroic innings — hitting 6 runs on the first ball, 4 on the second, and another 6 on the third, taking his team to a thrilling victory.

Awards and Conclusion

The Web Developer Team emerged as the champion, receiving 500 taka in prize money, while the Marketing Team finished as runner-up, earning 300 taka.

The planned picnic was postponed to keep the excitement focused on the cricket event, and every team expressed their eagerness to participate again in the future.
