Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony Held in Meherpur

Freelancers across Bangladesh are earning significant foreign income through online work and contributing meaningfully to the national economy. However, despite their success, they continue to lack social and governmental recognition within the country.
While traditional professions receive formal certification and public respect, freelancing — though a globally recognized digital profession — remains underappreciated in many local communities. Many people still do not understand what freelancers actually do on their computers, how they earn, or how much they contribute to the economy through foreign remittances.
As a result, freelancers often face challenges introducing themselves. They are sometimes perceived as unemployed or unproductive, even though they are among the key drivers of Bangladesh’s growing digital economy. Freelancers across the nation have therefore urged the Government of Bangladesh to grant formal social recognition to the freelancing profession and expand digital work opportunities in rural areas.
The Program in Meherpur
These issues were discussed during the Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony, held on the afternoon of May 7, 2014, at the Meherpur District Commissioner’s Conference Room.
At the event, renowned freelancer and entrepreneur Munshi Jahangir Zinnat spoke about the importance of recognizing freelancers as legitimate professionals who are representing Bangladesh globally with their skills and dedication. He emphasized that official acknowledgment from the government would help eliminate misconceptions and inspire rural youth to explore freelancing as a career.
In his remarks, Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain assured participants that he would raise the issue with senior officials at the Ministry of ICT, emphasizing that freelancing deserves the same level of recognition as other professions.
Guests and Participants
The Freelancer to Entrepreneur logo was officially unveiled by Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain and MeherpurNews24.com’s Chief Editor, Rafiqul Alam. ICT Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan also joined the event live via video conference and praised the initiative for its contribution to the national freelancing movement.
The program was attended by government officials, journalists, and freelancers from different parts of Meherpur District, who welcomed the government’s growing support for the freelancing sector.
The ceremony marked an important step in the ongoing national effort to recognize freelancers as entrepreneurs, helping transform Bangladesh’s freelancing community into a respected and officially acknowledged part of the country’s economic development.
