Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony Held in Meherpur

News Published on The Daily Mathabhanga

Freelancers across Bangladesh are earning significant amounts of foreign currency through online work, contributing meaningfully to the national economy. However, despite their achievements, they still face a lack of social and governmental recognition within society.

While all traditional professions enjoy official certifications and social prestige, freelancing — though widely respected in the global digital market — remains undervalued in many local communities. Many people still do not understand what freelancers actually do on their computers, how they earn money, or how much foreign income they bring into the country.

As a result, freelancers often face challenges in introducing themselves. They are sometimes viewed as unemployed or idle, even though they are among the leading contributors to Bangladesh’s digital transformation.

Freelancers across the country have therefore urged the Government of Bangladesh to provide formal recognition to the freelancing profession and to expand digital skill and employment opportunities to rural areas, ensuring that young people can build sustainable online careers.

    Event Overview

These issues were discussed in detail during the Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony, held on the afternoon of May 7, 2014, at the Meherpur District Commissioner’s Conference Room.

At the event, renowned freelancer and entrepreneur Munshi Jahangir Zinnat highlighted the need for social recognition of freelancers. He stated that while freelancers are representing Bangladesh with pride in the global IT arena, they deserve to be recognized as valuable contributors to the nation’s economic growth.

In his address, Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain assured participants that he would raise this issue with senior officials of the Ministry of ICT, emphasizing that freelancing should be considered a formal profession in Bangladesh.

    Guests and Participants

The Freelancer to Entrepreneur logo was officially unveiled by Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain and MeherpurNews24.com’s Chief Editor Rafiqul Alam. ICT Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan also joined the program live via video conference and extended his appreciation for the initiative.

The event was attended by government officials, journalists, and freelancers from across Meherpur District, who praised the effort to promote freelancing as a recognized and respected profession.

The ceremony was part of a nationwide campaign to empower freelancers and encourage their transition from online professionals to entrepreneurs, helping shape Bangladesh’s future as a leading digital economy.
