Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony Held in Meherpur

    News Published on Forhaj

Freelancers across Bangladesh are earning substantial foreign income and contributing to the country’s economy. Yet, despite their achievements, they continue to lack proper social and governmental recognition within society.

While traditional professions benefit from official certification and social prestige, freelancing — though a modern, globally respected profession — remains undervalued at the local level. Many people are still unaware of what freelancers actually do on their computers, how they earn, or the extent of their contribution through foreign currency earnings.

As a result, freelancers often struggle to explain their profession and are sometimes viewed as unemployed or unproductive. This lack of awareness creates barriers to social acceptance, even though freelancers are among the most active contributors to Bangladesh’s growing digital economy.

During the program, freelancers urged the Government of Bangladesh to grant official social recognition to the freelancing profession and to expand digital employment opportunities to rural areas.

    The Event

These concerns were highlighted during the Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony, held on the afternoon of May 7, 2014, at the Meherpur District Commissioner’s Conference Room.

Prominent freelancer and entrepreneur Munshi Jahangir Zinnat addressed the event, emphasizing the need for recognition and institutional support for freelancers who are bringing foreign remittance into the country. He stated that proper acknowledgment from the government would motivate more young people, especially in rural areas, to build sustainable careers through freelancing.

District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain, who attended as the Chief Guest, assured the audience that he would discuss the issue with senior officials at the Ministry of ICT to promote freelancing as a recognized and respectable profession.

    Guests and Participants

The Freelancer to Entrepreneur logo was formally unveiled by Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain and MeherpurNews24.com’s Chief Editor Rafiqul Alam. ICT Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan also joined the event live via video conference, offering his support to the national initiative.

The event was attended by government officials, journalists, and freelancers from across Meherpur District.

The ceremony marked a significant step in the ongoing national campaign to recognize freelancers as entrepreneurs — acknowledging their contribution to the digital economy and inspiring a new generation to pursue freelancing as a legitimate and respected career path.
