Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony Held in Meherpur

Freelancers across Bangladesh are earning a substantial amount of foreign currency through online platforms, contributing significantly to the national economy. However, despite their remarkable success, they still lack social and governmental recognition within society.
While traditional professions benefit from official certification and public status, freelancing — a globally respected digital profession — remains underrecognized at the local level. Many people are still unaware of what freelancers actually do on their computers, how they earn, or how much they contribute through foreign remittances.
As a result, freelancers often face difficulties explaining their work to others. In many communities, they are misunderstood as unemployed or inactive, despite their crucial role in promoting Bangladesh as a hub for global digital talent.
To address this issue, freelancers across the country have called upon the Government of Bangladesh to officially recognize freelancing as a legitimate profession and to expand digital skill development programs in rural areas. Such recognition, they believe, would encourage more youth to pursue freelancing and reduce unemployment nationwide.
The Event in Meherpur
These concerns were discussed at the Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony, held on the afternoon of May 7, 2014, at the Meherpur District Commissioner’s Conference Room.
At the event, renowned freelancer and entrepreneur Munshi Jahangir Zinnat highlighted that freelancers are bringing global recognition to Bangladesh but often struggle to gain acknowledgment in their local communities. He emphasized that social and institutional recognition is essential to inspire the next generation of freelancers, especially in rural areas.
In response, Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain assured participants that he would discuss this matter with senior officials of the Ministry of ICT to explore ways of promoting freelancing as a respected and recognized profession.
Guests and Participants
The Freelancer to Entrepreneur logo was officially unveiled by Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain and MeherpurNews24.com’s Chief Editor, Rafiqul Alam. ICT Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan also joined the event live via video conference and expressed his support for the initiative.
The program was attended by government officials, reporters, and freelancers from various upazilas of Meherpur District.
The event marked an important milestone in the national movement to recognize freelancers as entrepreneurs — reinforcing the role of digital professionals in shaping Bangladesh’s future economy and creating pathways for youth empowerment through technology.
