Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony Held in Meherpur

Freelancers across Bangladesh are earning considerable foreign income through online platforms, making a strong contribution to the national economy. Yet, despite their success and international recognition, they continue to lack social and governmental acknowledgment within their own communities.
While traditional professions are supported by government certification and established social status, freelancing — despite being a modern and globally respected career — remains underappreciated in many local areas. Many people are still unaware of what freelancers actually do on their computers, how they earn money, and how significantly they contribute through foreign remittances.
Because of this lack of understanding, many freelancers face difficulties introducing themselves. Some are even regarded as unemployed or unproductive, despite their essential role in promoting Bangladesh’s image in the digital world. Freelancers across the country have therefore urged the Government of Bangladesh to provide official recognition for the freelancing profession and to expand its reach into rural communities.
The Event in Meherpur
These concerns were raised during the Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony, held on the afternoon of May 7, 2014, at the Meherpur District Commissioner’s Conference Room.
At the event, noted freelancer and entrepreneur Munshi Jahangir Zinnat highlighted the struggles faced by freelancers in gaining recognition, emphasizing that they represent Bangladesh on international platforms and deserve respect for their contributions. He stated that social and institutional acknowledgment would encourage rural youth to pursue freelancing, reduce unemployment, and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
In response, Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain assured attendees that he would raise the issue with high-level officials of the Ministry of ICT, expressing his full support for initiatives aimed at formalizing the freelancing profession.

The Freelancer to Entrepreneur logo was officially unveiled by Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain and MeherpurNews24.com’s Chief Editor Rafiqul Alam. ICT Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan also joined the event live via video conference, extending his appreciation to the freelancers and encouraging continued collaboration between the government and the freelancing community.
The program was attended by government officials, journalists, and freelancers from different upazilas of Meherpur District, who welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm and hope for positive change.
The event was part of a national campaign to recognize freelancers as entrepreneurs and promote freelancing as a credible and empowering profession across Bangladesh — a movement that reflects the country’s growing commitment to building a strong digital economy.
