Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony Held in Meherpur

News Published on Udoy News 24

Freelancers across Bangladesh are earning a significant amount of foreign currency through online work, making valuable contributions to the national economy. Yet, despite their success, they continue to lack social and governmental recognition within society.

While traditional professions are backed by government certifications and enjoy social prestige, freelancing — a modern and globally respected digital profession — still struggles for acceptance in many local communities. Many people remain unaware of what freelancers actually do on their computers, how they earn, or how much they contribute through their foreign income.

As a result, many freelancers face social challenges when introducing themselves. They are often perceived as unemployed or inactive, even though they are among the key contributors to Bangladesh’s rapidly growing digital economy. Freelancers across the country have therefore urged the Government of Bangladesh to officially recognize freelancing as a profession and to promote it in rural areas — helping more people gain digital employment opportunities.

    The Event in Meherpur

These issues were discussed during the Freelancer to Entrepreneur Logo Opening Ceremony, held on the afternoon of May 7, 2014, at the Meherpur District Commissioner’s Conference Room.

At the program, renowned freelancer and entrepreneur Munshi Jahangir Zinnat highlighted that while freelancers are enhancing Bangladesh’s global reputation, they still lack respect in their local communities due to limited awareness. He stressed that social and institutional recognition could inspire rural youth to engage in freelancing and help reduce unemployment across the country.

In response, Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain assured participants that he would discuss the issue with senior officials at the Ministry of ICT, pledging to help bring freelancing into the mainstream through official initiatives.

    Guests and Participants

The Freelancer to Entrepreneur logo was officially unveiled by Meherpur District Commissioner Mahmud Hossain and MeherpurNews24.com’s Chief Editor, Rafiqul Alam. ICT Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan also joined the event live via video conference, expressing appreciation for the efforts of freelancers and reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the freelancing sector.

The event was attended by government officers, media representatives, and freelancers from across Meherpur District.

The program marked an important step toward recognizing freelancers as entrepreneurs and advancing the national vision of a Digital Bangladesh, where local talents can thrive and contribute to the global digital marketplace.
